Posted December 22, 2011 Gettysburg College Job Title Assistant Director of Research Department Research Position Summary The Assistant Director of Research for Development, Alumni and Parent Relations supports Gettysburg College by conducting the identification, qualification, and tracking of prospects for financial support. This position also analyzes data and prepares reports and briefing documents that assist colleagues within the division and, where appropriate, within the college at large, in support of the division’s mission. Specifically, this position prepares reports of a sensitive nature for the College President, trustees, and the Vice President of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations. Gettysburg College has completed its strategic directions document and has launched a feasibility study to prepare for a comprehensive campaign. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred. Two to three years of research experience, particularly in development or prospect research, or related experience in fundraising, university, or library/information sciences, or financial or legal research desired. Experience in use of on-line databases such as Lexis-Nexis; experience in use of standard print reference materials such as Standard and Poor’s Register, Foundation Directory, Who’s Who, etc.; familiarity with Internet searching; and prior experience as a prospect researcher in development office within a higher education environment is preferred. Knowledge of Windows-based personal computers and programs is preferred as well as Internet and on-line search systems and databases. The successful candidate will have the ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and clearly report on a high volume of biographical and financial data; write concise research documents with attention to accuracy, details, and pertinence; work independently, prioritize workloads and meet deadlines; communicate interpersonally with a variety of individuals; use discretion; and maintain confidentiality. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF GIFT PLANNING
The position of Assistant/Associate Director of Gift Planning reports to and works in tandem with the Director of Gift Planning in a team-oriented environment. The position requires an individual with knowledge of excellent people, communication, and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to multi task. Three to five years of experience in Gift Planning is preferred.
Responsibilities: Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gift planning prospects and donors and assist major gift officers with their prospects who may be interested in making a planned gift. Solicit major outright gifts in some circumstances. Follow up on requests for information on gift planning options at Lafayette. Prepare proposals using PGCalc software program for life-income agreements that suit the circumstances of individual donors. Stay current with changing tax laws and special legislation that provide advantages to donors in making various planned gifts. Work with attorneys, executors, and trust officers in the settlement of estates and liquidations of trusts that have included Lafayette College as a beneficiary. Maintain tracking reports for Gift Planning data. Work closely with BNY Mellon on all issues that relate to services for donors. Assist with development of printed gift planning marketing materials. Assist with completion of annual reporting on gift annuities to states that require it. Participate in and staff college reunions, donor dinners, and other special events.
Responsibilities specific to this position include: Conducting an average of 12 visits to prospects/donors per month. Oversight of the James Madison Porter Society, including: ensuring that current information for members has been entered into the Banner database system, updating the membership plaque annually, and oversight over the annual list of Porter Society members for the Summary of Giving. Oversight of the Gift Planning website. Oversight of the Gift Planning marketing effort.
